Box Office Battle: 'Angel has Fallen' looking to swoop into top spot

Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.

ANOTHER THREE FILMS OPEN THIS WEEKEND: This weekend brings yet another three new films to theaters, after the last two weekends saw the opening of ten new films. Lionsgate (LGF.A, LGF.B) and Millennium's "Angel Has Fallen," the action film sequel to "Olympus has Fallen" and "London has Fallen," all of which star Gerard Butler, is expected to be the most successful of the three, and will look to take the top spot this weekend with a domestic gross of $14M-$15M. Also opening, but not expected to crack the top five, are Fox Searchlight's horro-thriller "Ready or Not" and Sony (SNE) and AFFIRM's faith-based drama "Overcomer," which are both expected to earn around $5M in their respective opening weekends.

GOOD BOYS, HOBBS & SHAW HOLDING ON: Comcast (CMCSA, CMCSK) subsidiary Universal's R-rated comedy "Good Boys," which surprised last weekend by taking the top spot, is expected to finish this weekend at #2, with Universal's "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw," the Fast & Furious spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, expected to finish at #3. Disney's (DIS) live-action remake of "The Lion King," which is now in its sixth weekend at theaters, is expected to finish at #4.

  • Good Boys: $12M
  • Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw: $8M
  • The Lion King: $7M
